My job has kept me really busy lately, with very little time for blogs, my own or others. I am leaving this afternoon for Denver for a part business part fun trip. I thought I would post a couple of pictures of the bougainvillea that is starting to bloom. The red one I planted two years ago and I was just about ready to give up on them ever blooming when a week or so ago I started seeing some blooms. The light pink one was just planted this summer, but the blooms have been rare so far.

Both are beautiful, but the pink one, it's so delicate and papery, like it was a Japanese origami flower - just lovely! Have a good trip!
Hi Dee ... so glad I was able to remind you of your pheasant hunts with your Dad.
I have 2 bougainvilleas that I brought with me from Houston and they are safe inside now, on the sun porch we had to build to accommodate all of my tropicals. My Black Beauty, the really dark purple one, did not bloom yet but I bet it will inside now. I have heard that they bloom better if you don't water so much and even let the leaves droop a bit before you do.

Hope Denver's weather was nice. It sure was a few weeks ago when I visited there. My son says it's cooler now, but I noticed even in cooler weather the sun seems more intense. I guess Denver is closer to the sun!

Bougainvillea are delicate and need babied until they are well established - then they are like cast iron.
They have really delicate root systems...when I plant a new one, I just cut the bottom from the 1 gallon can, and plant the whole thing, without disurbing the root ball. They do not like too much water, and will rot easily...
BUT - once they begin to bloom, you can be sure conditions are right, they have hit their stride, and they are going to bloom happily long into the future!
