Late September Cactus Monday

I've missed Cactus Monday for a few weeks but this weekend I had some lovely cactus blooms to share today. This first one, is not a bloom, but the ripe fruit on my night bloomer. You can still see the dried flower attached. I love the bright pink/red color. Soon the birds and ants will eat them.

This next one surprised me. I didn't see the bud forming and suddenly a sweet little pink flower. I noticed more buds growing so there should be quite a show coming soon.

I happened to catch this one right as it was opening...I plopped myself down and took a few minutes out of my day to watch part of the process. This picture was taken later after it had fully opened.

One of my first cactus purchases, this Parodia has been a reliable bloomer- nearly year round.

The next two pictures are not the same cactus. I have two of these- different labels but they look the same. They both bloomed this weekend.

Happy Cactus Monday! To see other prickly themed artwork and photography please visit Teri's Painted Daisies and join in the fun!

Every time I see cactus blooms like these I get amazed all over again at how delicate and almost hand-cut paper-y they are, sitting there in the heart of all the spines. There must be a lesson in that!

Your cacti are so wonderful to be displaying these delightful colors in late September.

Thanks for sharing these lovely photos.

It's such a contrast - the body of the cactus plant is so hard and spiky, but the flower is so delicate and beautiful.

HCM.

I had no idea that some bloom all yar long and that others would bloom so late in the year. Thanks for sharing these photos. Just Grand. HCM, Judy

The slightly cooler temps of fall does bring a second rush on the things, doesn't it? Amazing that a plant that doesn't change much is so responsive to the enviornment.

Beautiful blooms. And I'm pretty sure that the fruit on that cactus is edible for people too... if you're feeling adventurous.

Now that I am back in Tucson walking at 6am and enjoying all the night bloomers. Wow, how I have missed them!

I like the color of the fruit of your night bloomer. The flowers are very colorful. We used to have a cactus but I was never able to see a flower bloom from it.
