Bloomin Purple for Cactus Monday

I've been watching this little Ferocactus the last month or so as it formed the very first buds. The first one finally opened this last week!  I bought this cactus over a year ago, and this is the first flower.  Somehow I expected yellow or orange so I was thrilled when I saw a purple bloom!

This looks like a Biznaga de Dulce or Ferocactus macrodiscus, but usually they bloom in March. It's beautiful! I ran out and looked at mine to see if it had any buds forming, but nothing. So I guess I'll wait. It's one of my favorite barrels.

You cactus people are starting to "get under my skin" with your lovely flowers and such. Seriously, I think you're winning me over to your side. The aloe I've started with is actually doing okay so far. Amazing. How long will it take before I can grow something like the Ferocactus without killing it?
