Spring walk in the desert

The desert area near my work office calls to me quite a bit these Spring days.  If I am not in my office I might be found there, taking a quick mental health break!  I've counted three different types of prickly pear so far and all are budding out and putting on new Spring growth.

There are other cool things in the desert.  If you look closely at this Cholla you will see the mama bird sitting on her nest in the middle of it.
Spring flowers....
And more spring flowers...
I love the candy-striped backs.
A very gnarly old tree...wish I could meet the gnome that surely lives in there...
Mistletoe clumped in the trees..feeds the birds in the area with its red berries.
More flowers...
New growth on a cholla.
Soon it will be hot and the desert won't be quite so tempting but these days are magical.

I just love the plants of the desert. I did live in AZ for one year but it was way too hot for me, besides, I like a little more green in my surroundings.
