Wild barrels in bloom for Cactus Monday

There is some wild desert area next to where I work so I took a walk the other morning with my camera to find some barrel cacti in bloom. These cactus bloom in yellow, orange and red flowers.

A fairly young one...

And a very odd deformed one, that is still putting out blooms in spite of its odd shape.

And see the baby one- at the base of the odd guy? Isn't he cute!

Happy Cactus Monday! Please visit Teri's Painted Daisies to see amazing artwork and photography with a cactus theme and make your Monday a Cactus Monday!

Yep, it's that time of the year when the wild barrels are blooming. I love that cool-looking deformed one you found that still manages to flower.

Cacti never cease to amaze me in their ability to survive despite all odds.

You really got a great cross section of barrel blooms!

I wonder what made that one go monstrose... from the looks of it, it appears that it was growing normally then something happened to the growing tip to make it contort. Of course, that was probably a hundred years ago, so we'll never know...

Great pics!

HCM! Real cactus actually growing outside is so much more beautiful than the three little stubs I have in a pot. I never even dared to dream mine might flower someday.

The crested one is highly unusual. Hope not many people know where it is...
